Stathis’ artworks live in the area between handcrafted materiality and conceptual imagery. He has trained as a potter and uses a variety of throwing and hand building processes to produce ceramic sculptures for public spaces and galleries. In his work, he uses text and readymades in a playful way to create spatial metaphors and conceptual paradoxes.
He completed an MA in Fine Arts at Sir John Cass Faculty of Art and he is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors since 2015. He was a finalist at the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize and the FIRST@108 Public Art Award and exhibited in ceramic Biennials in Portugal, Spain, Austria, Germany and Romania.
He runs his studio in the Barkston House in Leeds.
